Family Speaks Out on Hit-and-Run
Even though Yolanda Scales is wearing two arm braces as proof of what happen to her along Denmark Road, she is confused by exactly how it happened. “She don’t remember anything that happened,” said Yolanda’s aunt Alice Scales. She said her 9-year-old niece spent Sunday night at a friend’s house, early that evening they rode their bikes about two miles to Denmark Elementary School. Authorities said riding back is when Yolanda was hit. “Possible hit-and-run that occurred in the 2200 block of Denmark Road,” said Sheriff David Woolfork of Madison County. He also said a white Dodge Ram pickup may have been responsible. Far from home, the kids, scared and hurt were saved by a complete stranger. “You had a passer byer that just stopped her vehicle got out and held this child until the ambulance got there,” said Yolanda’s aunt. Yolanda’s family said her right elbow is fractured. While a thumb and left bone in her forearm were broken, her cheek was busted open and Wednesday was the first time she was able to open her right eye from the extreme swelling. “And this person didn’t even have the guts to stay there and say what had happen,” asked Alice Scales. Even though Yolanda is safe now, they hope the person responsible will soon be identified, before he can do this to someone else. If you have any information that can help police contact the Madison County Sheriff’s Department at (731) 423-6000.
