Madison County Commission Meets
The widespread damage throughout Madison County caused by recent storms was just one of the topics commissioners discussed during Monday’s monthly meeting. Madison County is one of several West Tennessee counties included in the national disaster declaration approved by President Obama. At the meeting, leaders allocated funds from FEMA to replace storm sirens in the area, a process Madison County EMA leaders said requires their undivided attention. “If we don’t do it properly, then we don’t get back the FEMA money or reimbursement,” said Marty Clements director of the Jackson-Madison County EMA. “All the project program worksheet have to be done properly and given in a timely frame so it we don’t do them and we don’t do them properly, then the money we have here is going to be coming off the taxpayers pockets from down here.” Commissioners also decided not to take up the issue of appointing someone to take the District 2 seat, left open with last month’s resignation of Charles Byrd, who will now serve as county attorney. That issue is expected to be revisited next month.
