Hardin Co. Cancer Center Gets Check
It will soon be much easier for cancer patients to receive treatment in Hardin County thanks to a new public-private partnership. Tuesday, officials from USDA Rural Development and the Tennessee Valley Electric Cooperative presented the Daryl Worley Cancer Treatment Center in Savannah with $740,000 in zero-interest financing for a new center. The USDA loan works through local electric cooperatives to provide financing for projects that create jobs and improve lives of residents in rural areas. The center is also receiving $920,000 from the Hardin County Medical Center and $660,000 from the Daryl Worley Foundation. “We have provided chemotherapy services for several years, but we continue to hear from our patients who require radiation that they were having to make the long, dreaded trip,” said Charlotte Burns, CEO of the Hardin County Medical Center. “So we are able now to provide that radiation therapy here closer to home.” After losing his grandfathers to cancer, country music artist Daryl Worley started his foundation to help ease the burden for other cancer patients in his home town who had to travel to Jackson to get the necessary treatment.
