It us a staggering number. As of right now, to get the U.S. out of debt, each American taxpayer would have to fork over more than $129,000. It is no surprise that our nation’s debt was the focus of a listening touring hosted by Congressman Marsha Blackburn, (R) 7th District, on Tuesday. “It’s wonderful that people are keeping up with it,” said U.S. Rep. Blackburn. “They come to the town halls with a lot of information, a lot of questions about what they’re hearing on the news and reading on the internet.” In Savannah, Blackburn listened as a crowd of several dozens voiced their concerns over the rising debt and the fear of losing services because of it. On Monday, the U.S. hit its debt ceiling of $14.3 trillion. “I think what we’re seeing is a real interest by the American people to know what’s going on,” said Blackburn. “What they want us to do is to say OK, this is what we’ve done, this is where we are and this is what we’re going to do as we move forward.” On Tuesday, Blackburn also made stops in Parsons and Lexington.
