Blues Fest Battle of the Bands
In a little more than a week, downtown Jackson will be filled with the sounds of the blues. Thursday night, it was a battle royale for several area bands competing for a slot in the upcoming Shannon Street Blues and Heritage Festival. A “Battle of the Bands” competition was held at Downtown Tavern to determine who would be selected as the opening act to play in next weekend’s music extravaganza. Organizers said this event and the Blues Fest are great ways to showcase Jackson’s musical talent. “It’s a great opportunity for the contestants for the musicians and it’s just a good thing for Jackson,” said Josh Smith of the Downtown Tavern. “Giving back a little bit to the younger, newer musicians coming up and bringing their new ideas into what Jackson music is.” The Battle of the Bands was presented by the Jackson Downtown Development Corporation and Thomas Media. The 20th Annual Shannon Street Blues and Heritage Festival is next Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4 in downtown Jackson.
