Kentucky Baptists Pick New Leader
A professor at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary has been nominated to head the Kentucky Baptist Convention.
The nominee, Paul Chitwood,, is also the pastor at First Baptist Church of Mount Washington in Bullitt County.
Paul Badgett chaired the search committee that recommends Chitwood to succeed retiring convention Executive Director Bill Mackey. Badgett says the 41-year-old Chitwood is educationally prepared, is spiritual and listens well, according to The Courier-Journal.
Badgett noted that Chitwood would have the challenge of leading Baptists to do more with less. The convention’s Mission Board is scheduled to vote Thursday on Chitwood’s nomination
The state group cut staff and froze salaries in January.
The KBC is the largest religious denomination in Kentucky. It coordinates the efforts of 2,400 independent churches.
