Lambuth Relics to be Sold Saturday
Lambuth officials worked with auctioneers to get set for the sale of many of the school’s historic items, Friday. “I’m taken back when I walk in this room and see all of this. This is the end of Lambuth,” said Barbara Warren, an interested bidder. University officials let members of the community preview the items to be sold Saturday. “I grew up in this neighborhood, went to Lambuth…. just been close to Lambuth and would like to have a memento,” said Larry Smith, an interested bidder. According to spectators, there are plenty of items in which to choose. “The Persian rugs are beautiful. Noticed a bust up front that was really pretty. I did notice some carvings of furniture that was actually given by Mr. Lambuth,” said Nita Taylor, an interested bidder. University officials said because some of the items being offered are so unique, they do not know where to start the pricing. One such item, the historic Lambuth bell. “We’ve had numerous calls, I’d say 40 to 50 calls about that bell. If it’s important, if it sells in the U.S., people know about it. That’s the modern age we live in,” said Dwight Stevens of Stevens Auction Service, the service being used tomorrow to auction Lambuth items.
