In observance of Memorial Day, area veterans in the Hub City took time to honor the memory of those who died while serving their country. Friday, several members of the Captain Jack Holland VFW Post 6496 placed more than 500 flags on the graves of veterans who served in battle, from the Civil War up to the current conflicts in Afghanistan. ABC 7 Eyewitness News spoke with veterans who told us, the bonds forged between soldiers are ones that continue even after they have passed on. “We look out for each other we know what they went through we know the comradery that you have in service,” said Jim Shannon, veteran. “It’s an honor to come out here and put flags out on their graves.” VFW members said they will continue to hold various event to commemorate all fallen veterans throughout the Memorial Day weekend.
