KY Volunteers Headed To Joplin

A dozen volunteers from Kentucky who know what it’s like to lose everything are heading to Missouri to help people who were left homeless by the tornado that devastated Joplin.

The group left Lexington on Tuesday morning, and organizer Ginny Ramsey says the volunteers will spend at least eight days working in Joplin. Ramsey says the volunteers were inspired to help after seeing the scenes of devastation on TV at the shelter.

The volunteer group includes 10 people who are staying at a homeless shelter in Lexington and two others who have been homeless.

Homeless volunteer David Hosey says he wants to make a difference and encourage storm victims to keep their heads up amid adversity.

Ramsey says the volunteers received physicals, tetanus shots and underwent police background checks.
