Madison County Deputy Involved Shooting

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is continuing an internal investigation of a fatal shooting involving a Madison County Sheriff’s deputy. According to a news release, deputies went to a home in the 600 block of Boone Lane just before 6:00 a.m., Thursday, in an attempt to serve an arrest warrant on Christopher B. Reid, 25. Deputies said Reid produced a knife and attempted to assault an officer following a brief chase. After the officer repeatedly told Reid to drop the knife, Reid reportedly lunged at the officer. The Sheriff’s Department stated their investigation showed the officer fired two shots in an effort to neutralize the threat, fatally wounding the Christopher Reid. The officer involved in the shooting has been identified as Paul J. Capps, 25. Capps began his employment with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office in August 2007 and has been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation. Sheriff David Woolfork said he has requested that District Attorney General Jerry Woodall ask the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to assist in the investigation in accordance with department policy.
