In light of Monday’s fatal shooting in east Jackson, City Councilman-Elect Johnny Dodd says he hopes to take a step in the right direction to stop the violence. On Friday, Dodd plans to revive the anti-crime marches he first started along with community activist Shirlene Mercer in the mid-90’s in response to growing crime. The marches will be held every Friday in different parts of the city. Dodd is asking community members to come out and take a stand against crime on their street. Dodd hopes the march will help show the community that their help is vital in finding the person responsible for the shooting death of Marketis Bailey. “It’s not going to solve the problem,” said Dodd. “But hopefully it will show the criminals and people that are doing wrong that the community is coming together and are going to fight against what they are doing in the community.” Dodd is asking that at least a hundred men walk with him on Friday’s inaugural crime march. It begins tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. on Holland Avenue and East Chester Street, the site of Bailey’s shooting.
