Pageant Rehearsals Underway
It was the first full day of rehearsals for this year’s Miss Tennessee contestants. Starting at 8:30, Monday morning the 36 ladies from across the Volunteer State hit the stage in preparation for four nights of competition which starts with preliminaries, Wednesday night. Starting Tuesday, the contestants will compete in private interviews with the judges. The pageant provides $80,000 in scholarships and this year it will see the return of a very special guest, Tennessee’s governor. “It’s been since Don Sundquist was in the governor’s office since we’ve had a governor attend, so we’re really excited, said Allison DeMarcus, the Miss Tennessee pageant emcee. “Even though he can’t be here for the crowning, we are thrilled that he was able to come and help welcome everyone to Jackson on our opening night of the show.” Again, opening night is Wednesday, the night Governor Bill Haslam will join in the festivities. This is the 59th year the Miss Tennessee Scholarship Pageant has been held in Jackson.
