List of Applicants for Superintendent Position Released
According to BWP & Associates, 36 potential applicants from 19 different states and Saudi Arabia applied to be Jackson-Madison County’s next superintendent. “We see a lot of promise for the new leader coming into Jackson-Madison County,” said George McShan. McShan is one of two consultants with BWP & Associates who narrowed the 36 applicants down to six candidates after getting to know the school district. “We interviewed various groups. Started with the school board, business community, teachers, staff, students and developed a leadership profile,” said McShan. Based on that profile, McShan said they recruited candidates based on their leadership skills and characteristics. “These candidates, based on the paper we have seen, look like all very, very capable individuals,” school board chairman Bob Alvey said. Beginning on June 27 board members will start interviewing the following six candidates; Senior Vice President James Browder, of Fort Myers, FL.; Asst. Superintendent Damon Cathey, of Kingsport, Tenn.; Superintendent Craig Fiegel, of Plymouth, Mich.; Assoc. Superintendent Terrence Martin, of Des Moines, Iowa; Interim Superintendent Buddy White, of Jackson, Tenn.; Superintendent Beth Wright, of Lake City, SC. Alvey said the board will choose its top three candidates and call them back for a second interview during the week of July 4. The board will make its final decision by July 15.
