Police Investigate East Jackson Stabbing
Police said they responded to a call of an accidental stabbing in the 200-block of Bishop Place in east Jackson, Tuesday, June 14 at 8:20 a.m. “A 20-year old woman has stabbed her 32-year old boyfriend and father of two of her children,” said Lt. Tyreece Miller of Jackson Police Department. Investigators said the man was stabbed in the back with a kitchen knife. They said the woman was taken into custody for questioning and was later booked on an investigative hold, which means no official charges have been filed against her at this point. Officials said the three children who live in the home are now in temporary state custody. “The children do need to be removed temporarily, at least, because you need to analyze what the situation was. You need to know the ability of the mind of the person that’s going to have the kids,” said Betty Gray, a neighbor. According to police, records show the couple does not have a history of domestic violence calls in Jackson. Gray said news of a stabbing in her neighborhood was shocking. “It’s peaceful. It’s quiet, mostly settled people are here, either they’re older people or they work everyday,” said Gray. Investigators said emergency surgery was performed on the victim, Tuesday, and his condition has now stabilized, yet he remains critical. Meanwhile, police said they hope to talk to the man tomorrow, after which they will determine whether any charges will be filed.
