Campers Get Chance to Touch a Truck
Hundreds of kids flocked to Jackson’s Fairgrounds Park, Wednesday morning, but it was not to enjoy the fair. Summer campers from all around Jackson and the area were treated to the Jackson Parks and Recreation Department’ annual Touch a Truck Day. The event gives young children a chance to meet and talk with emergency, utility, law enforcement and others who serve the community on a daily basis. The kids were also given a chance to even climb into or take a ride in some of the vehicles on display. ‘With the kids to not only touch, see and feel, they get to speak to the people that operates the equipment each day. So, they get to learn the purpose of the vehicle,” said Bridgett Parham, administrator for the Jackson Recreation and Parks Department. “So, that helps give them an idea of something they may want to do in the future.” Campers said they look forward to taking part in the event that is set up on the parking lot of Fairgrounds Park near downtown Jackson.
