Fincher Files Revised Financial Statements

U.S. Rep. Stephen Fincher says in a new financial disclosure that he had debt of at least $1.54 million that he owed in 2010, despite reporting that he had no debts in a report he filed as a candidate last year.

The Commercial Appeal reports that the original May 17, 2010, disclosure listed no liabilities and did not assess the real estate value of Stephen and Lynn Fincher Farms that Wednesday’s report now indicates is worth between $500,000 and $1 million.

The 2010 report and a 2009 report with similar omissions were amended last month.

Fincher, a Republican, was criticized by Democratic opponent Roy Herron during their race last year over the accuracy of his financial disclosures.

Fincher’s lawyer Elliot S. Berke says the omission was an honest misunderstanding.
