HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — Parents in Humboldt are calling it a surprise, hearing Principal Lillian Shelton has been placed on paid administrative leave until Dec. 1. “I thought she was a good principal,” said one parent of a middle school student. According to a statement by Superintendent Dr. Versie Hamlett, the district investigated actions of unprofessional communication. The news release states Shelton was put on paid administrative leave because of unjustified results. Many parents wonder what that means. “They were so vague about it, and she is a nice person, but it’s still kinda — I just wonder what she did,” parent Kelly Manuel said. Manuel has one student at the middle school and two others that have been students under Shelton’s lead. “While they were going out there, I never had any trouble out of Ms. Shelton, as far as anything, ever hearing of anything going on,” Manuel said. A district worker said Hamlett was not available to talk on camera about the incident. The release did not include who would be in charge until Shelton resumes her duties as principal.
