U of M Lambuth to host free holiday planetarium show throughout December

WEST JACKSON — The University of Memphis Lambuth Campus will present a free holiday-themed show at the school’s planerarium every Monday throughout the month of December.

The show, titled Season of Light, will be every Monday in December at the M.D. Anderson Planetarium, according to a release from the school.

“Season of Light is a 35-minute, full-dome planetarium presentation that traces the history and development of many of the world’s most endearing holiday customs, all of which involve lighting up the winter season — from the burning Yule log, sparkling Christmas tree lights and candles in windows, to the lighting of luminaries in the American Southwest and the traditional ritual of the Hanukkah menorah,” the release states.

The program explores the possible astronomical explanations for a star over Bethlehem in the last quarter of the show, according to the release. Audiences also will learn about winter constellations and what causes seasons.

Show times for Season of Light are as follows:
Monday, Dec. 1, at 2, 4 and 7 p.m.
Friday, Dec. 5, 4 p.m. **
Sunday, Dec. 7, 2 p.m.**
