Jackson police urge holiday shoppers to be vigilant

JACKSON, Tenn. — The holiday season is here, and the Jackson Police Department wants you to shop safely and prevent becoming a victim. Jackson police say you should only carry your drivers license and avoid carrying large amounts of cash. They also say it is important to be aware of your surroundings and be on alert for strangers at all times. “We have a lot more people out of the shopping centers and facilities are full, the parking lots are full, and unfortunately that also brings out people that are looking to take advantage of those crowds and people who are potential victims,” said Capt. Mike Holt with the Jackson Police Department. Police say shoppers should be aware of what time stores close and where the exits are to prevent long walks back to the vehicle. “A person who is aware of what’s going on, who is not completely laden with packages and purses and whatnot, that looks like that they are alert is not somebody that generally suspects want to approach,” Holt said.
