CAMDEN, Tenn. — There is apparently a real-life Grinch in Benton Countyfter a man comes home to find his treasured Christmas decorations stolen and it happened in broad daylight. Early signs of Christmas are showing up all over the City of Camden, but for one resident the lights have been unplugged. “It’s beyond me how someone can steal Christmas decorations,” Michael Horton said. Horton decorates his home every year but this year he says he is left heartbroken. “I’m expecting to see them every time I pull into the driveway,” Horton said. “But they’re not there.” A simple wooden Mr. and Mrs. Claus statue may not seem like much to many but for Horton they hold a special meaning. He said they were stolen, along with two Christmas trees in board daylight. “You can probably go out and make them for $100 but it is not the money,” Horton said. “It’s the fact that a family member made them.” Horton said his grandfather who is also a former Camden mayor made the set more than 20 years ago and this year he decided to add his own touch. “There was a few years that they didn’t get put out,” Horton said. “So I went and got them out of storage this year and decided to paint them orange.” Orange, that show’s his spirit for football. “Maybe they’re just Tennessee fans too,” Horton said. “But they’re going about it the wrong way.” Horton said if someone returns the decorations no charges will be filed. He just wants to have them back in the family. The Camden Police Department said there is a $50 reward for information leading to the recovery of the decorations.
