JACKSON, Tenn. — Hundreds of West Tennesseans hit the streets to kick off their holiday with a little exercise. The Gold’s Gym Turkey Day 5K brought out more than 900 runners Thursday. Proceeds from the race went to the Regional Interfaith Association. Last year the community race brought in more than $10,000 for the nonprofit. Some say they love the idea of jump-starting the holidays with fitness and fellowship. “I think this brings Jackson together,” first-time runner Becki Bledsoe said. “This is a great community effort to just involve everybody. It’s great to see people exercising. Hopefully we’ll give some others that don’t do it some incentive to do so.” This is the 10th year for the event.
