Small Business Saturday a success in Jackson

JACKSON– With Black Friday in the books and Cyber Monday still to come, Saturday was all about supporting locally owned businesses. Small Business Saturday started in 2010 as an advertising campaign for American Express. It was created to specifically remind shoppers that buying from a local store helps their community and economy in a unique way. “It really just makes me appreciate our customers. A lot of them came in today telling me that they wanted to wait till today to come in,” said Ginger Kemp, of R&J Food Supply. Calista Joyce, owner of Beyond Vogue, said that Saturday kicks off the most important time for a small business owner. “This Christmas season is going to be our biggest month. For small businesses, that’s a maker or breaker,” Joyce said. Robert’s Jeweler has been in business for 68 years in Jackson. “I encourage you to shop at small businesses in the community. You’ll find everything right here, you don’t have to go to Memphis or Nashville,” Janet Silver said. Silver said many would be surprised by what small businesses have to offer.
