West Tenn. Healthcare lights Bluebird Tree for cancer awareness

WEST JACKSON — The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation lit their Bluebird Tree Monday for the 25th consecutive year. Each year the tree is lit in remembrance of those who have been lost to cancer and in honor of those who have struggled with the disease. Proceeds from the lights and ornaments purchased support Camp Bluebird, a bi-annual camp for adult cancer survivors, according to event supporters. Organizers say this holiday tradition helps them welcome the Christmas season and honor those who lost their battle with cancer. “We do this and when people see the tree so that they not only bring the Christmas spirit to them but that they will remember those that have come before us,” event organizer Sandra Atherton said.
