JACKSON, Tenn. — Christmas came early Tuesday for some children in West Tennessee. Seventeen children from Jackson chosen by the Salvation Army got the chance to walk hand-in-hand with local law enforcement for the annual Shop with a Cop event. “It’s nice to have the opportunity to come out and see kids away from like a wreck or when something bad happens,” Lt. Jeff Shepard said. The children were each given $250 from the local Fraternal Order of Police, the world’s largest law enforcement organization. Shop with a Cop was created by FOP to give children who are less fortunate the opportunity to put Christmas gifts under their tree. “This is what Christmas is all about,” said Debbie Stanfill, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. “That’s what it should be about — Helping each other and those less fortunate.” The Shop with a Cop event has been held in Jackson for more than 25 years.
