Police: Gangs migrating from Missouri Bootheel to northwest Tenn.

DYERSBURG, Tenn. — Dyersburg Police said Friday the recent increase in calls of shots fired point to gang crime migrating from Missouri. Capt. Mark Moody of the Dyersburg Police Department said the gang members are not moving to the city but passing through and causing conflicts with local gangs. “Gang members from the area around Caruthersville, Mo., were in Dyersburg one weekend,” Moody said. “There was an altercation between them and some members here in Dyersburg.” He said his police department joined forces with Caruthersville to stop the violence. Dyersburg resident Barbara Miller said she has frequently heard shots in west Dyersburg but has stopped calling police. “I used to, but I don’t anymore ’cause I think, ‘well if anything really happened someone would’ve called,” Miller said. Moody urges citizens to report gunshots immediately so police can respond as soon as possible.
