LANA hosts 22nd annual home tour

JACKSON, Tenn. — Midtown Jackson has a rich history of homes more than 100 years old, now renovated, lived in, and spreading holiday spirit in their annual home tour. Nine homes are decorated for this year’s LANA Holiday Home tour. One home along the tour was vacant for nearly a decade before it went on the market. Once it was bought, it took an overhaul of remodeling before it could be considered liveable. That home is now decorated for Christmas with a family of eight living inside. Brad Greer says the Lambuth Area Neighborhood Association, or LANA, is all about. “That’s what’s neat about Midtown – People can buy at a pretty good price, work on them, turn them into just absolutely fabulous homes, and that’s what we do in Midtown,” Greer explained. Some homes along the tour serve a different purpose, like ‘Happy and Healthy Naturally’, which has been in operation for two years. “The houses can still be used even if it’s not a residence. It can also be a great place to have a business,” said business owner KrisAnn BlaIr. Regardless of the homes’ purpose, to some, it is just a part of their Christmas checklist. “It’s been going on for 22 years now. For some people, it’s the kickoff to their holiday season. It’s become an annual tradition,” Jennifer Greer, a member of the LANA board, said. While homeowners do not deny it does take some work to get ready for three days of showing off their home to the community, there is a plus side. “It’s a lot of work to get ready this early for Christmas and have it ready, but the good thing is once they get it ready, they’re ready to entertain family and friends for the rest of the holiday season,” Greer said. Tickets for the annual home tour are still on sale. The Holiday Home Tour begins Friday, Dec. 5 from 7 – 9pm and will continue on Saturday and Sunday from 1 – 5pm. Tour tickets are $10 in advance and $15 the day of the event. The tour begins in the Welcome Center located on the University of Memphis Lambuth Campus at 705 Lambuth Blvd. Tour-goers must come to the Welcome Center to exchange tickets for the official tour list and map; the addresses of the homes on the tour are not publicized in advance. Refreshments will also be served. The Welcome Center will open 30 minutes prior to the tour on all three days.
