Man in court accused of strangling girlfriend until unconscious

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man was in court Monday on accusations of strangling his girlfriend until she was unconscious. Jay D. Murphy is charged with aggravated assault-domestic abuse in the Saturday incident on Liddon Street in which his girlfriend told police he strangled her until she passed out, according to court documents. The woman also told police Murphy hit her in the back, documents state. Murphy was issued a $40,000 bond.
