Union University staff member faces shoplifting charge

JACKSON, Tenn. — Union University’s staff photographer was arrested Sunday on accusations of shoplifting from a Jackson retailer, according to court documents. Jonathan Morris Abernathy is accused of concealing a watch valued at $24.99 at Kohl’s on Vann Drive and then leaving the store without paying, according to an affidavit. A loss prevention officer at the store reported to police he had Abernathy in custody after he witnessed him conceal the watch and leave the store, documents state.
