Man faces firearm, drug charges after traffic stop

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man faced a judge Monday on drug and firearm charges following a Saturday traffic stop, according to court documents. Jeffery Marchbanks Jr. was arrested after police say a one-pot meth lab and a gun were found in his pickup truck, according to an affidavit. He also is on state parole, the document states. An officer pulled Marchbanks over on South Highland Avenue for driving with no headlights, according to the affidavit. Marchbanks allegedly admitting to the officer his driver’s license was suspended. A check of Marchbanks driving status revealed his license was revoked, documents state. When Marchbanks was asked to exit the vehicle, the officer saw a bottle with liquid and other substances that appeared to be a one-pot meth lab, according to the affidavit. Marchbanks was arrested on the driving charges, and a Metro Narcotics officer confirmed the bottle was a meth lab and that Marchbanks was on state parole, the documents state. Marchbanks is charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, initiation to manufacture methamphetamine, felony drug paraphernalia and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the affidavit. His bond is set at $15,000.
