JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson-Madison County Library officials say a new system they recently bought is going to make more books accessible to students in the entire school system. The library’s director, Dinah Harris, says more than 12,000 books are available in the new One Click Digital system. Harris says the One Click Digital software can be accessed by a computer, smartphone or e-reader. The library was able to buy the software to collaborate with the school district. “We can actually purchase the content cheaper than the school system can, and if we could get a library card in the hands of each child, then hopefully it would cause them to even read more,” Harris told WBBJ Tuesday. Jackson-Madison County school officials say it is a great collaboration. “I think it’s a win-win situation and promotes our literacy across the system,” Superintendent Verna Ruffin said. “What it does is it creates more access, and because students can now access the electronic books, I think that’s a wonderful partnership,” Ruffin said. Harris says getting more books into the hands of children is their goal. “That’s what the library’s all about, so however I can do that, that’s my vision,” Harris said. Library officials say all you need is a library card to access the digital database.
