Fire destroys Dyersburg family’s home

DYERSBURG, Tenn. — Fire Department Officials said a fire Tuesday morning destroyed a family’s Home Bob Evans said that his wife and three teenage sons were inside the home at the time of the fire. “My wife woke me up screaming, and said something was wrong. I sit up, and the house was full of smoke,” said Evans. He said they just moved in about eight days ago, and already they have to move again. He and his wife visited the American Red Cross in Dyersburg Wednesday. He said the community support has touched his family, including his 15-year-old son. “He was like, ‘Dad, I’m so moved. I’ve never seen so much compassion for the community like this,” said Evans. Fire Department Officials said the home can not be saved, but that smoke alarms saved the family’s life. “We’re so thankful they had a working smoke alarm that alerted them when there was smoke and fire inside the house, and they were able to escape with their lives,” said Captain John Doyle of the Dyersburg Fire Department. Evans agreed, and said the spoke alarm alerted his wife and possibly save his entire family. To find out how to donate to the family, go to the “Seen on 7” section.
