Longtime firefighter honored by Jackson department

NORTH JACKSON — A longtime public servant was honored Tuesday at the Elmcroft assisted living center in Jackson. Bill Pullen, 73, served more than 30 years with the volunteer fire department in Cottage Grove, 25 of which he served as chief. He now lives at the Elmcroft center and is treated in the facility’s Memory Care unit. Madison County fire officials on Tuesday made Pullen an honorary member of the department. Bill’s wife, June, talked about how much it meant to both her and her husband. “It means a lot to me,” June said. “I think it’s wonderful that they do this. I think it’s fantastic they take their time to do this for him.” Bill’s special day also included a ride in the fire truck.
