NORTH JACKSON, Tenn. — Studies say the first Sunday after New Year’s is the busiest day of the year for online dating. Match.com said the first Sunday evening pulls in the most traffic. If you’re looking for love online, chances are you’ll be browsing with millions of others Sunday evening. Match.com said it’s expected to have more than two million users logging in more than 36 million times in the first week of January. “I don’t know why it would be busier today more than any other time of the year maybe because it’s colder,” Mike Robertson said. Robertson has an online dating success story of his own. Robertson said he and his wife met on MySpace. “Online dating I think it’s a lot safer than going out and meeting somebody in person plus you get to know the person before you actually meet up.” But not all agree. “You know to each his own whoever decides to do it that’s their personal life choice, but I don’t suggest it,” Nancy Winningham said. West Tennesseans shared their stories with WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News. Kim Wood said she met her husband online and said they were engaged within seven months of meeting. Susan Goodman Marion said she met her late husband online nine years ago. She said it was much easier back then and has since gotten rid of her Match.com profile. Several others wrote in sharing their horror stories and successes. Some who said their dating days came before these sites were available still know those who use them. Joe Zaborowski said it worked for his step-son. “He met his fiance on a website for dating and now they’re engaged,” Zaborowski said. Right now singles make up more than half of the adult population in the country. Match.com said those who decide to date online in January will be 15 percent more likely to meet someone compared to all other months of the year.
