BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — Tuesday afternoon more than 80 students took their first look inside the new Boy and Girls Club in Brownsville. Officials said the facility spans about 14,000 sq ft, and cost more than $150,000, but it is finally open. They said those funds were received from private donors as well as government grant aid. The facility is capable of holding about 150 children, but that depends on the amount of staff available. “The time frame that they’re here from 3 pm to 6 pm is the time that most crime takes place. By them being here, and all this support that we have in the community it just takes away that possibility,” said Ray Jones, club director. He said one of the goals with this new facility is to stop these children from becoming a statistic. At the center they have space for sports, computer science, and games. Their young members said they appreciate the show of support and care from the community. “It feels better, because I didn’t think something like this could happen,” said Faith Jones, who has been a member of the club for eight years. The director said for those interested in membership for their child or volunteer opportunities please contact them at 127 N. Grand Ave or call (731) 772-0552.
