Police: One injured in north Jackson shooting

NORTH JACKSON — Police are investigating a north Jackson shooting that left at least one man injured. The shooting took place in the area behind the Jackson Clinic location near Oil Well Road and the Highway 45 Bypass., according to Jackson police. The man was shot in the upper leg area and is being detained because he also was armed, according to Interim Police Chief Julian Wiser. Police are looking for a suspect described as a black man driving an early 2000-model maroon Buick Century, according to Wiser. An off-duty officer heard gunshots and reported the shooting, which occurred at 54 Garland Drive, police said. The call went out around 10:45 a.m. about shots fired in the area. WBBJ reporter Kurt Mullen saw a man being treated by paramedics on scene and then taken away in an ambulance. We will have more information as it becomes available.
