HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. — With Trinity Methodist Church in Nutbush destroyed by fire, the congregation plans to meet in a private service Sunday morning at a member’s home. Trinity Methodist Church Pastor John Reid Bonson says it wasn’t the church that was destroyed — it was only the building. The State Fire Marshal’s office announces Thursday The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was investigating the fire along with two other church fires that occurred the same day in Lauderdale County. Bonson said the ATF was not able to continue their investigation Friday because the scene was too cold for K-9s to pick up scent. He said officers are guarding the property. Bonson said the congregation is raising funds to rebuild and has received donations from around the world. Church members are working on getting portable classrooms on site so they can continue meeting. Area churches also have offered space for them to worship, Bonson said.
