CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — Bold thieves kick in the doors to two local homes Monday during what investigators said could be the beginning of a crime spree. A footprint marks a damaged door after it is kicked in during the second burglary of the day. A neighbor, who is also a relative of the homeowner, does not want to give his name, but says whoever broke in ransacked the home. “They kicked the door right in here, and that’s a fairly large footprint,” he said. “When they kicked the door it broke the frame, and they just went in the house and trashed the house, stole his computer, flipped his mattress, tore out his closet, just pretty well dumped everything in the floor.” He said a burglary in broad daylight worries the neighborhood. “It’s enough to upset people, especially when it’s close to where you live and there’s another one on down the road,” he said. Just before the home on Jaynes Road, just off Highway 412, was hit, another one on Walnut Hill Church Road was burglarized. Crockett County investigator Jordan Spraggins said he thinks they are connected. “It would appear they were looking for a specific item because both houses appeared they were in and out very quickly and knew what they were going to get,” Spraggins said. He said it is odd the burglars did not take much from each home. A laptop was taken from the home on Jaynes Road and a TV was taken from the other home. “We do have some concern about this being the beginning stages of a string of burglaries in our county as well as other counties,” Spraggins said. Those nearby are hopeful these will be the last. “Maybe they’ll be enough clues from this one and the other to catch them,” the neighbor said. Investigators said a red car was seen just after one of the burglaries Monday morning, but they have no physical description of the people involved.
