Neighbors shocked after woman shot in west Jackson neighborhood

WEST JACKSON, Tenn. — A woman is hospitalized after police say two men opened fire during a burglary Tuesday night. One neighbor, Anthony Taylor, said he heard the shot. “I just heard like a loud bang, just one, and that was it,” Taylor said. Investigators say around 9:30 Tuesday night two men broke into a duplex just off Old Hickory Boulevard through a back window. Officers said when the victim went to check on the noise, she was shot in the stomach. Lt. Phillip Stanfill believes the intruders thought the home was empty. “We don’t know if they entered with the intent to confront her,” Stanfill said. “She was just basically house sitting.” “You know, she was doing a good deed, and for somebody to come along and try to rob her and possibly get hurt in the process is jacked up,” Taylor said. Taylor said police were canvassing the entire area within minutes of the gunfire. The scene shocked neighbors such as Shauna Dupree who said they are worried for their families. “I have a four-year-old, so I’m like, I hope it doesn’t happen again. I hope they find the culprits of who did it,” Dupree said. The 43-year-old victim is still in the hospital but is expected to make a full recovery. Police are looking for two black men with slim builds in their late teens or early 20s. They were last seen wearing a grey hoodie and a black hoodie. Call Jackson police at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-8477 if you have information that could help the investigation.
