Firefighter recovering after wall collapses during house fire

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn.- A Madison County firefighter is recovering after being hurt on the job. Fire Chief Eric Turner confirms Lieutenant Steve Gibson was hurt while working a fire call last Friday. Chief Turner said a crew responded to a house fire on Denmark-Jackson Road in west Madison County. At the scene, Lieutenant Gibson tried to create an entry into the home. That is when a brick wall collapsed and trapped him from waist down. He was transported to the hospital and released the same night. Chief turner told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News this incident could have been worse. “The one stepped away to pull some fire hose for the one that was fixing to make entry. They were going and actually when he stepped away to pull some of the hose to go in that’s when the collapse happened. Within a minute or so we could’ve had 2 firefighter injuries,” said Chief Turner. Lieutenant Gibson is currently at home recovering.
