MIDTOWN JACKSON — Police have released the name of a man found shot to death Monday evening at an apartment in midtown Jackson. Police responded to the shooting around 6 p.m. at Crestview Apartments, located at 118 Crescent Avenue. Ezzat Hanna, who works next door, said the area was eerily quiet when officers showed up. “Police say they’re investigating a shooting and won’t let anybody go to the apartments, and everybody wanted to go home and it was too cold so everyone was kind of hanging around outside the store,” Hanna said. Harvey Gandy, 33, lived there and was found dead inside with an apparent gunshot wound, according to a release from the Jackson Police Department. Police say Gandy appeared to have been shot earlier Monday but did not release a specific time. Investigator found no evidence of a break-in at the apartment, which they say could mean Gandy knew the person who shot him, according to the release. A woman who lives next to the apartments said it is not uncommon to hear gunshots at her apartment but that this apparent murder raises the level of fear. “Living right here and next to those apartments, you see a lot of traffic in and out over there, and it’s just — and it seems like things are going on that shouldn’t be,” she said. Anyone with information is asked to call Jackson police at (731) 425-8400, Crime Stoppers at ( 731) 424-TIPS (8477) or submit an anonymous tip online at jmcrimestoppers.org.
