MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — For a second straight night, a fire at Hooper Timber company in west Madison County burns out of control. Madison County firefighters have been on the scene since flames were first spotted around six yesterday morning. Crews say they’re working to contain the flames and keep them from spreading to other buildings or property. We spoke with firefighters Friday who say they don’t expect to see an end anytime soon. “Due to the amount of combustibles and the amount of fire that has taken place, [it] doesn’t appear that we’re going to be able to put it out,” Madison County Fire Marshal Don Friddle said. “It’s just actually going to have to burn. There’s no amount of water that we could get our hands on right now to really put this fire out.” Firefighters hope the rain this weekend will help put out the fire. The owner estimates the damage at more than a million dollars.
