JACKSON, Tenn — Jackson drivers drove with caution Monday as icy conditions cover the streets. While most main streets are passable, county officials said drivers should be cautious of refreezing. Anything that melts today, and because the temperatures are dropping so much, it’s going to refreeze and when it refreezes, it build more slick spots in there,” director of Jackson-Madison County Emergency Management, Marty Clements told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News, Monday. Clements said even if the road looks clear, still proceed with caution. “Places that look its already dried up and there’s nothing there and they’re slick as all get out – people are going too fast a little bit, then they hit those and its too late by the time they realize it and they slam on the breaks,” Clements explained. Drivers said making it home safe is all about being cautious. “You’ve got to watch other drivers too, as well as yourself. You just got to keep an open eye,” Jackson driver, said Manarvin Brantley. “You don’t want to crash into anything, insurance or not,” Jackson driver Roy Owens II said. “You don’t want to damage your vehicle or hit anybody else and put anybody else’s life at risk.” Clements said checking your car before getting it is the best way to play it safe. “Here’s a chance to save somebody or yourself or do a property damage by doing something proper,” Clements said. Officials recommend doing a full sweep of your car to make things are working properly before hitting the road. That means clearing all windows of ice and making sure your tires are properly inflated.
