HUNTINGDON, Tenn. — As of Tuesday, Carroll County schools have cancelled classes due to weather for six straight days. Parents said it has been stressful. Mother Shanique Williams said she knows schools are closed because of the back roads but she thinks it is decent enough for children to go back to school. “You have to rearrange baby sitter, rearrange different things. I still gotta go to work, still gotta make money,” said another parent Derrick Farmer. Superintendent,Johnny McAdams and the district’s transportation department survey the roads before making the decision to cancel school. “Several factors that enter in the decision to close schools. First of all of course road conditions themselves,” said McAdams. He said that even if the main highways and county roads are clear, it is the back roads that ultimately determine if the buses can safely get to students. “The other factors that we have to look into is that our buses being able to get out to those main roads,” McAdams said. As of Tuesday, there are approximately 10 to 11 bus routes out of 56 that are still unable to safely get to students. This is one of the main reasons Carroll County Schools are still closed. “The safety of our students and our employees and our drivers is first and foremost.. course we do value our students education and we want those students getting the very best education we can provide” said McAdams.
