Jackson Firefighters Association endorses Finney for mayor

JACKSON, Tenn. — The race for Jackson City Mayor is gearing up to be a hotly contested one. The Jackson Firefighters Union officially endorsed candidate Lowe Finney. The Jackson Firefighters Association publicly endorsed Finney for mayor Wednesday. “We are so happy and humble to have their support this is a group of people that we highly respect that our community depends on and we’re glad to have them,” Finney said. The bold move comes with the election just less than 10 weeks away. The firefighter’s current boss, Mayor Jerry Gist responded to the announcement saying, “great group of well-trained, well-maintained, well-equipped firefighters in Jackson. They have the perfect right to endorse whoever they like.” Fellow candidate Tim York seemed unsurprised by the endorsement saying, “unions usually gravitate to Democrats and unions typically choose Democrats. The heads of union management usually do that, but it doesn’t typically represent the other members.” Candidate Charlie Lee Motton said, “my philosophy differs greatly from Lowe Finney. If a group of people want to back in him the election, that’s fine with me.” Calls to Doctor James Baxter were not immediately returned Wednesday. The city election is May 5.
