JACKSON, Tenn. — Area businesses were recognized as the best of the best Friday evening. The Jackson-Madison County African American Chamber of Commerce presented the 14th annual Jewel Awards Banquet, co-sponsored by WBBJ-TV. African American business owners, vendors and suppliers from Madison County and the eight surrounding counties are eligible for recognition in the categories based on years in business. Organizers said this event highlights the accomplishments of these businesses. “Having somebody who can mentor you in business, gives you best practices, introduces you to people and make contacts due networking, it’s very significant,” said Florence Howard of the Jackson-Madison County African American Chamber of Commerce. The event’s theme was “Creating Connections, Building the future.” Entertainment was provided by Harmonic Vibrations.
