DOWNTOWN JACKSON, Tenn. — Incendiary comments were made Tuesday, by a man claiming to speak for the family of Cinqui D’Jahspora. Jackson Police Officer Raymond Bond was cleared, Monday, by a grand jury in the shooting death of the 20-year-old. Dr. Randy Short predicts the decision will spark a race-fueled war in the streets of Jackson. “We’re going to see Jackson become Ferguson 2.0,” said Dr. Short. Protests in Jackson over the November shooting have been peaceful but Dr. Short believes the violence seen on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri could finds its way to West Tennessee. “People who want to live with the mint julep past are going to be confronted with a world that’s not as tolerant,” Dr. Short said. The president of the Jackson-Madison County NAACP Chapter believes violence is not the answer. “Whether we become another Ferguson, only the citizens here will determine that,” said Harrell Carter. Carter said although he believes the deadly incident should have never happened, dividing the community is not the answer. We can pit one side against the other, but that’s not going to get us where we need to be,” Carter said. Dr. Short says it is going to be hard to forgive and forget what happened to Cinque. “Jackson wants to move forward economically,” Short said. “But they’re not going to be able to live down not providing justice for people that live here.” Dr. Short said future events in Jackson are scheduled.
