JACKSON, Tenn.,–Some stores report having to change the way their stocking shelves for winter blast supplies. R&J Feed and Supply near downtown Jackson said they have sold more than 13 tons of salt in two days. The store normally purchases the salt pre-bagged and ready to sell. Employees said on Wednesday they had to start bagging 50-pound bags from a two-ton tub. Deborah Oliver works at the feed store and said several customers were coming in asking for advice on the best time to use the salt. “You want to put it down before and after,” she said. Oliver said the double application is the best solution for eliminating ice. “It helps to melt it as it’s coming down and once it’s all—once it’s stopped, to keep it from hardening and freezing over put your salt out to do that,” she said. Oliver said a 50 pound bag could easily cover an average sized driveway. Employees say the store sold 32 tons of salt last month.
