Police officers offer rides for severe winter weather

DYERSBURG, Tenn. — Wednesday, Dyersburg Police Department officers said when they cruise street during severe winter weather, they keep an eye out out for those who may not be able to stay warm, and transport them to the local warming center. The Union Mission Warming Center is only open during extreme weather conditions.The center’s director, Neal Chatham said Wednesday should be the 20th night the warming center has been open during the winter season. That is three times more than last season, and twice as many people have come in. During present conditions, officials said law enforcement stepped up and offered services for those needing transport to the center and warrant checks for the center’s occupants. “We don’t want to stick people in the warming center that could possibly endanger the other occupants,” said Officer Matt Harber. Chatham said law enforcement support has really helped their center safely secure its occupants. “The other night they brought a man here, and we were able to take care of him.
