JACKSON, Tenn. — What should you do if you wake up without power or find yourself with downed lines that keep you in the dark for days? WBBJ spoke with a local electrician Wednesday who said his best advice is to not try to fix any electrical damage yourself. In fact, he said by trying to help, you could actually cause more damage. “Don’t go outside trying to fix your problem or find out what’s going on, because certain situations like residential homes, when the services get down they can still have power on the house but there still can be a live wire on the ground,” electrician Shorty Hammond said. If you do lose power, most utility companies ask that you call and let them know.
