JACKSON, Tenn. — With the sunshine beaming down Thursday afternoon, the mounds and mounds of snow sitting all around West Tennessee melted into the streets. “I told them if it ever snowed, I’d come out and play in it for them,” said David Wingo, who was plowing through his church’s parking lot Thursday afternoon trying to keep it from icing over. “You can really tell the roads in the sun and ones in the shade,” Shannon Guthrie said, who was braving the roads Thursday afternoon. “The ones in the shade are very slick, and the ones in the sun most of the day have done some melting, but yeah, it’s pretty bad.” As the frozen snow turned into water, safety experts said that’s a problem because the water will turn to solid sheets of ice by morning. “It’s supposed to get real cold — tonight will probably be worse than last night,” Wingo said. That means roads that were clear Thursday may be dangerous by Friday. Guthrie and her family were supposed to move into a new home this week but said that plan is on ice for now. “I don’t know about tomorrow,” Guthrie said. “I kind of doubt it will happen because they have the big trucks and you can’t even see the driveway.” Drivers said there’s no choice but to wait it out. As the roads re-freeze, officials say the main concern to watch out for is black ice and to slow down when driving.
